Benefits Specialist

Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, an international law firm with over 1,300 attorneys and 20 offices worldwide, seeks a Benefits Specialist for its Benefits Department in Los Angeles.  The Benefits Department strives to provide outstanding service to the Firm’s partners, attorneys, and staff worldwide.  The ideal candidate must possess entry level Benefits Administration experience, excellent communication skills, be highly committed to producing quality work, and be able to establish rapport and credibility with all levels of management, employees, and vendors.

The Benefits Specialist reports directly to the Benefits Manager and works closely with the other Benefits Specialists and Benefits Coordinators to ensure the department goals are met.  The Specialist administers and maintains the Firm’s Benefit plans, conducts Benefits Orientations, and creates/audits spreadsheet for paying monthly invoices to vendors. 

 In addition to the above, some additional responsibilities include:

  • Providing day-to-day benefits administration
  • Keeping Firm’s benefits materials and communication updated
  • Coordinating and conducting benefits orientation meetings
  • Coordinating and conducting open enrollment meetings
  • Tracking hours of part-time employees to determine Affordable Care Act (ACA) eligibility
  • Ensure benefit eligibility and associated premiums are correctly deducted for eligible employees working in the international offices
  • Answer basic Retirement Plan questions
  • Work on special projects as assigned
  • Performing a variety of tasks as required

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Compliance with legal requirements and knowledge of benefits laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft/Oracle and Microsoft applications
  • Familiarity with standard practices, procedures and concepts within benefits administration
  • Basic accounting skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively when required 

Education/Experience:

  • At least 2 years of employee benefits experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required
