Senior Actuarial Administrator

The Companies of Group RHI are premier providers of customizable, unbundled solutions across the full spectrum of retirement plan design, implementation, administration and actuarial services.

Purpose of Position

The Senior Actuarial Administrator (SAA) will be responsible for the day-to-day management of an assigned caseload of client plans with a focus on smaller plans.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Single point of contact and “ownership” for assigned clients
  • Assist in training of Associate Retirement Plan Administrators
  • Provide support to financial advisors and referral sources
  • Ability to accurately interpret and apply plan document provisions
  • Ensure compliance with DOL and IRS requirements
  • Annual compliance testing for assigned clients 410(b), 401(a)(4), 401(a)(26), Plan Limits, Top Heavy, etc.) for both individual and combination Plans.
  • Preparation and filing of Form 5500 and related schedules, Form 8955-SSA and PBGC filings
  • Prepare actuarial valuations for both traditional defined benefit plans and cash balance plans
  • Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) determination and processing
  • Benefit calculations including optional forms of payment
  • Ensure proper coordination and delivery of annual required notices
  • Represent the company on client calls and in client meetings, as needed
  • Review of Associate Retirement Plan Administrator work within team environment
  • Support the retirement plan implementation, conversion, de-conversion and termination processes
  • Oversee plan assignments with an average case load of 80+
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Train and develop people
  • Leverage across a large book of clients

Competencies Required

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication
  • Must be detailed and possess strong organizational skills
  • Time management focused adhering to deadlines and timelines
  • Proficient with numbers and basic calculations
  • Solutions oriented
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • A demonstrated track-record of consistently meeting and/or exceeding performance expectations
  • Experienced with ASC software
  • Understand plan documents (Basic Plan Document, Adoption Agreement, Summary Plan Description (SPD), Amendments, Summary of Material Modifications (SMM) and annual notices)
  • Understand the annual lifecycle of plan (data collection, eligibility, compliance testing, trust accounting and Form 5500 preparation and filing)

Education and Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years of experience related to defined benefit actuarial/administration services
  • Broad knowledge of the retirement plan industry, willingness to obtain ASPPA QPA designation or NIPA equivalent
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field: equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of degree
