Plan Administration Manager, Defined Benefit

The manager is responsible for establishing and executing short, medium and long-term strategies, goals and improvements of the business unit that reduce costs, ensure timely and accurate customer service. In addition, the manager will direct a team of compliance and actuary professionals responsible for providing defined benefit pension administration compliance services. 


  • Lead the continued development of the TRA defined benefit structure, in order to support long term, sustained growth and success
  • Drive production and performance improvement by managing the change process to achieve intended organizational and cultural outcomes
  • Evaluate, recommend and implement procedure/process improvements to increase production and quality of work
  • Manage the Plan Administration, Defined Benefit Team by coaching and developing staff members through performance management, goal setting, training and effective employee relations
  • Oversees the quality and volume of work produced to ensure staff members are held accountable and that expectations are met on a consistent basis
  • Coordinates the preparation of monthly production reports, analyzing the reports and providing summary of findings
  • Leading and/or supporting key projects that seek to enhance existing service and operational models within TRA
  • Provide budgetary input as requested as it relates to Plan Administration, Defined Benefit Team needs
  • Maintain current, technical knowledge of applicable ERISA and IRS regulations as they relate to plan design and compliance issues with the ability to explain and advise clients based on this technical knowledge
  • Outstanding TRA Corporate Citizen dedicated to maintaining TRAs reputation at all times in the communities we touch
  • Active member of the TRA Leadership Team
  • Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience)
  • 7+ years of defined benefit plan administration experience
  • Supervisory experience in the industry preferred
  • Understanding of regulatory aspects of defined benefit plan administration and other defined benefit regulatory issues involving ERISA and IRS Revenue Rulings
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to track multiple tasks and issues, set goals and prioritize tasks in a high volume and fast paced environment
  • Enrolled Actuary certification or completion of Defined Benefit Administration Certificate through ASPPA or ERPA preferred
