This Position is located in the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation's Washington DC Metropolitan area only.

In addition to the basic education requirements indicated below, you must also qualify for this position based on one of the following: education, specialized experience, or a combination of both.
You may qualify for this position based on education, if you possess one year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement; OR if you possess at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the private sector applying analytical and actuarial techniques to research and analyze mathematical data. Examples may include: performing analysis and evaluation of records, documents and relevant data; or reviewing and calculating accrued benefits; OR a combination of education and experience may be combined for this grade level for which both education and experience are acceptable.
Who is eligible for the Recent Graduates Program? Any individual who completed all requirements for an associate, bachelor, master, professional, or doctorate degree from a qualifying educational institution within the previous two years meets the basic requirement to apply for the Recent Graduate Program;
-OR-
Any veteran released or discharged from active duty within the previous two years but not more that six years following completion of applicable degree.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work builds critical competencies, knowledge, and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Basic Requirements
Education Requirement: Applicants may meet the education requirement for actuary positions
by meeting either Paragraph A or Paragraph B below.
Paragraph A: Applicants may qualify for the GS-7 grade level by meeting ONE the educational
and/or experience requirements described below:
(a) Eligibility under the superior academic achievement provision and a bachelor's degree that included courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science totaling at least 24 semester hours. This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites.
OR
(b) One year of graduate education in the subject areas of actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science; and a bachelor's degree that included courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science totaling at least 24 semester hours. This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites.
OR
(c) Combination of education and experience that includes both of the following requirements: One year of actuarial experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level; and completion of a minimum of 24 semester hours of courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science at a four year college or university. This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites.
Paragraph B: Special Alternate Means of Qualifying for Positions at GS-07 or Equivalent
Applicants may qualify for a position at grade level GS-07 using the "Special Alternate
Means" provisions described below. Applicants for all grade levels must complete a minimum of 24 semester hours of courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science at a four
year college or university. This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites.
Successful completion of appropriate examinations offered by the Society of Actuaries (SOA), the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS), or the Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries (JBEA), as evidenced by an official SOA or CAS transcript, and
specialized experience described below is fully qualifying at the grade levels shown below:
1. GS-07 or Equivalent Grade Level: Successful completion of one of the SOA or CAS examinations, or credit for one of
the JBEA examinations.
