Retirement Plan Specialist

BST’s Retirement Services Department is seeking an Associate to join their service team. This position is responsible for trust accounting and reconciliations, calculation of employer contributions, plan compliance testing, government reporting and filing and processing participant loans and distributions.  Opportunity to develop into consultant or leadership position possible.


  • Assists the clients in meeting all IRS and Department of Labor deadlines necessary for qualified retirement plan
  • Trust accounting, preparation of balance and income statements
  • Custodian downloads, uploads and imports
  • Reviews distribution paperwork and coordinates processing of distributions with asset holder
  • Reviews loan paperwork and coordinates processing of loans with asset holder
  • Prepare client-based summary of reports and participant statements
  • Assist with preparation of government filing forms; including Form 5500, 8955 and 1099
  • Maintain up-to date knowledge of present legislation and proposed legislative changes affecting ERISA and non-ERISA plans
  • Responsible for all aspects of valuation reports, participant statements and annual testing
  • Client communication is expected on specified topics when requested. A high level of professionalism is required
  • Supports a continuous improvement environment by providing regular feedback to the leadership team on processes and procedures
  • Stays current on IRS guidance


  • Bachelor / Associate degree with an emphasis in Finance, Accounting, Math, Economics or related field. CPA or ERPA a plus.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Word and Excel. Working knowledge of Datair is a plus.
  • Strong workpaper organization skills. Experience working with accounting workpaper software such as CaseWare or Engagement a plus.  
  • Demonstrate professional experience performing discrimination testing, IRS and DOL reporting, and participant reporting.
  • Sound understanding of retirement plan design. Solid mathematical and analytical skills, solutions oriented.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in a language our clients understand.
  • Ability to collect and interpret data.
  • Critical thinking to search for creative solutions by demonstrating objectivity and realism.
  • Excellent client service skills including the ability to persuade and make a connection.
  • Ability to portray confidence through leadership skills to earn the respect of our clients.
  • Ability to work both independently and in conjunction with a team in a fast-paced and time sensitive environment.
  • Understanding of when and how to work in an efficient manner.
