Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP, a global law firm, is actively recruiting a Senior Paralegal for its Tax & ERISA team, which can be resident in the Washington, Dallas or Houston office.  This position provides sophisticated technical and substantive support to lawyers on the preparation of complex legal documents, technical legal research issues, and other advanced tasks related to one or more of the firm’s legal practice areas.  Trains and mentors other paralegals and case clerks and coordinates the delegation of work to same. Provides staff leadership in supporting firm, office and team initiatives and in support of management directives.

Four year college degree or equivalent paralegal experience required; paralegal certificate, National Association of Legal Assistants certification or specialty certificate provided by State helpful.  Minimum of seven years of paralegal, or related business experience required.  Experience in preparing draft amendments, summary plan descriptions and summaries of material modifications; required notices for qualified plans; determination letter filings (individually designed and preapproved plan documents); correction of compliance issues using EPCRS (Employee Plans Compliance Resolution System), VFCP (Voluntary Fiduciary Correction Program) and DFVCP (Delinquent Filer Voluntary Compliance Program); preparation of Forms 5500 and 5330; analyzing and summarizing changes in new Treasury and Labor regulations and preparation of checklists documents compliance tasks.

Other Minimum Qualifications Include:  Knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic technological and research skills necessary to pull requested documents from online resources and familiarity with legal technology and computer databases required.  Must have ability to train other paralegals and work efficiently and accurately under pressure, and present a positive, professional image with colleagues, professional staff, and vendors.  Ability to work overtime or travel, as needed, on short notice essential. To perform this job successfully, the incumbent must possess the abilities or aptitudes to proficiently perform each of the responsibilities and accountabilities described above, with or without reasonable accommodation.  Examples include:  ability to work well under pressure, patience, diplomacy, high stress tolerance, excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to prioritize workload and adapt to changing conditions.  Visual acuity needed for transcription, extensive reading and input (typing) of information into computer.  Ability to receive and convey detailed information through oral communication.  Essential competency processes include language ability, reasoning and memory.
